The Story

Spencer and Kayla met me at Millbridge in Waxhaw on a warm late May afternoon. Kayla wore a long cream dress with blue florals and puffed sleeves, and Spencer kept it crisp in a white shirt and navy chinos. Both looked right at home against the neighborhood’s white trim and green lawns.

We started under the white pavilion and in the shade of the trees beside it, where the two of them spent more time laughing than holding still. That was exactly what I wanted.

From there we walked to the covered bridge for a dip and a kiss under the Millbridge sign. Then we moved to the old mill house, settling onto the lawn and the curved stone wall in front of its waterwheel. By the waterfall, Spencer took a knee on the rocks, and afterward Kayla couldn’t stop showing off her ring.

We finished in the woods and on a slow walk down the tree-lined sidewalks, hand in hand.
