The Three Types of Photographs I Capture On Your Wedding Day

Most galleries are wonderful at one of these and thin on the other two, and you rarely notice until the day is over and you go looking for a picture nobody thought to take. I shoot for all three, at every wedding, without exception.

Art

Editorial, Fine-art

Directed portraits, made to be printed, framed, and passed around the family at Christmas.

This is the stretch of the day where I take the wheel. I find the light, build the frame, and talk you through it until you forget the camera is there at all. You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose. Nobody does, and that has never once been a problem.

Story

Documentary, Details, Candids

The frames that put you back inside the day and show you how it moved.

Guests caught mid sentence, the ceremony exactly as it unfolded, the signage and florals and place settings you spent nine happy months choosing. For most of the wedding I am a step back, watching, letting the day be the day.

Legacy

Family Portraits, candid & posed

Photographs of the people who came for you.

Three generations in a single frame, the aunts and uncles, the grandparent who made the trip anyway. These are the pictures that end up in family albums and get shown to children who have not been born yet, and they are the easiest ones in the world to miss.

Let's talk about your day

Tell me your date and your venue, and I will let you know if the calendar is open.
